Abandoned Cart and Win-Back Automation

Recover abandoned carts and bring back lapsed customers with WhatsApp and email journeys built around cart contents and purchase cycles, measured against a holdout group.

Who it is for

  • D2C Founder or Growth Head
  • Head of Retention and CRM
  • Performance Marketing Manager
  • E-commerce Manager

The problem

Most visitors who add to cart do not buy, and many first-time customers never order again. Brands respond with the same discount reminder for everyone, which costs margin, trains customers to wait for a coupon and fills WhatsApp with messages people block.

Generic reminders

Every abandoner gets the same message and coupon, regardless of what they left, why, or whether they would have returned anyway.

Discount dependence

Coupons in every reminder erode margin and teach customers to abandon on purpose.

WhatsApp quality risk

High message volumes with low relevance lead to blocks and reports that hurt your sender quality rating.

No proof of impact

Recovered orders are counted without a holdout, so nobody knows which would have happened without the message.

What we build

We build journeys that react to what each customer did. An abandoned cart triggers a WhatsApp or email reminder that shows the actual items, addresses common blockers such as size, delivery time to their pincode or COD availability, and answers replies conversationally, handing anything outside scope to support. Win-back journeys follow each customer's purchase cycle, so a replenishment reminder for a moisturiser arrives around when it is likely to run out. An LLM drafts message variants in your brand voice from approved building blocks, and incentives come only from approved coupon pools. Every journey keeps a holdout group, so impact is measured rather than assumed.

  • Cart and browse abandonment triggers from Shopify, WooCommerce or your storefront
  • Messages that show the actual cart items, sizes in stock and delivery time to the customer's pincode
  • Conversational replies on WhatsApp for size, delivery and COD questions, with handover to support
  • Win-back timing based on each customer's purchase cycle and category
  • Message variants drafted in your brand voice from approved templates and claims
  • Built-in holdout groups, frequency caps and quiet hours

  • Inventory and pincode serviceability

Outputs

  • Abandoned cart and win-back messages tailored to each customer

Where people stay in control

Marketing approves templates, claims, incentive rules and journey changes before they go live, and reviews results weekly. Replies outside the agreed FAQ scope go to a support agent.

Integrations

  • Shopify, WooCommerce or your storefront
  • WhatsApp Business API provider
  • Email service or a marketing automation platform such as Klaviyo, MoEngage or CleverTap
  • OMS and inventory system
  • Helpdesk for handovers

Guardrails

  • Messages only to opted-in customers, with frequency caps and quiet hours
  • Incentives only from approved coupon pools
  • No false urgency or fake scarcity in copy
  • Opt-outs honoured immediately across channels
  • Holdout group maintained for every journey

Compliance notes

  • Marketing messages rely on consent that customers can withdraw, as the DPDP Act 2023 requires.
  • Copy avoids false urgency and other practices listed in the CCPA dark-pattern guidelines.
  • SMS fallbacks use DLT-registered headers and templates under TRAI rules.

What we measure

Incremental conversion
Conversion of messaged customers compared with the holdout group.
Cost per incremental order
Messaging and incentive cost divided by orders above the holdout baseline.
Opt-out and block rate
Opt-outs, blocks and quality rating changes per thousand messages sent.
Reply handling accuracy
A sample of conversational replies reviewed for correctness and handover decisions.

FAQs

01Why not just send a coupon to everyone who abandons?

Because many would have bought anyway, and blanket coupons teach customers to wait. The holdout shows how many orders the reminder actually adds, so incentives can be kept for segments where they make a difference.

02Will this hurt our WhatsApp quality rating?

It is designed to protect it: messages go only to opted-in customers, relate to what they did, and are capped. We monitor blocks and the quality rating weekly during the pilot.

03Can the assistant answer replies like 'is size M available?'

Yes, from live inventory and your FAQ content. Anything outside that scope, such as a complaint, goes to a support agent.

04Do we need a CDP?

No. Storefront and OMS events are enough to start. If you already use a marketing automation platform, we connect to it rather than replace it.
