Dormant Trading Account Re-Activation Campaigns

Find out why trading accounts went dormant, fix KYC and access blockers first, and run consent-based, compliance-approved journeys that bring clients back without tips or inducements.

Who it is for

  • Head of Growth, Broking
  • CRM and Retention Marketing Manager
  • Compliance Officer
  • Head of Customer Experience

The problem

Brokers carry many accounts that were opened during an IPO rush or a market rally and then went quiet. Some clients lost interest, but many are blocked: their KYC is on hold at the KRA, a nomination or declaration is pending, two-factor login is locked or the bank account was never verified.

Blanket campaigns miss the real reason

A generic 'come back and trade' message does nothing for a client whose account is blocked by a KYC issue.

Exchange inactivity rules add steps

Accounts flagged as inactive under exchange norms may need verification before they can trade again, and clients often do not know this.

Conduct risk in growth messaging

Messages that hint at easy profits or push derivatives to inexperienced clients create regulatory and reputational risk.

No proof of what worked

Without control groups, teams cannot tell whether a campaign brought clients back or simply reached those who would have returned anyway.

What we build

We build a reactivation system on top of your back office, KYC data and marketing tools. It segments dormant accounts by likely reason: KYC or KRA status on hold, pending nomination or declarations, locked login, never funded, traded once then stopped, or long-term investor with no recent activity. Blocked accounts get a service-first journey with a re-KYC or update link and help to clear the issue. Others receive approved educational and product-feature content through WhatsApp, email or SMS, with frequency caps and opt-outs. High-value clients and anyone who replies are routed to an RM or support. Every journey runs against a holdout group, so you can see what actually changed.

  • Segments dormant accounts by reason using KYC status, nominee status, login, funding and trade history
  • Runs service-first journeys for re-KYC, nominee and declaration updates and login recovery
  • Sends compliance-approved educational and feature content through WhatsApp, email and SMS
  • Applies consent checks, frequency caps and exclusions for vulnerable segments
  • Routes high-value clients and replies to RMs or support with context
  • Measures each journey against a randomly assigned holdout group

Where people stay in control

Compliance approves every template and content item before use, and RMs or support agents handle every reply and high-value conversation. Marketing owners decide which journeys to scale based on holdout results.

Integrations

  • Broking back-office and KYC systems
  • Marketing automation or customer data platform
  • WhatsApp Business API, email and DLT-registered SMS gateway
  • CRM and support ticketing
  • Analytics warehouse

Guardrails

  • No stock tips, return promises or derivatives inducements in any content
  • Only compliance-approved templates can be sent
  • Consent checked before every send, and opt-outs honoured immediately
  • Frequency caps per client and channel
  • Segments with recent heavy derivatives losses excluded from trading-oriented messages

Compliance notes

  • Content stays informational and avoids investment advice and inducements, in line with SEBI and exchange expectations on communication with investors.
  • Messages follow TRAI commercial-communication rules through DLT-registered templates and preference checks, and data use follows the DPDP Act 2023.

FAQs

01Will this push clients into derivatives trading?

No. Journeys focus on clearing account blockers and sharing approved educational and feature content. Trading-oriented messages exclude vulnerable segments, and no content offers tips or promises returns.

02Which channels does it use?

WhatsApp, email and SMS by default, with optional calls by your team or a voice agent for service-blocked accounts. Each channel checks consent and preferences before sending.

03How do we know the campaigns worked?

Every journey has a randomly assigned holdout group. Results compare the two, so you see the effect of the journey rather than clients who would have returned anyway.

04Can it handle accounts flagged inactive by the exchange?

Yes. It identifies those accounts and guides clients through the verification or update steps your process requires before they can trade again.
