Farmer Onboarding KYC

Onboard farmers and FPO members from phone photos of KYC, bank and land documents, with masked Aadhaar, name matching across scripts, duplicate checks and consent captured in their language.

Who it is for

  • FPO CEO
  • Head of Farmer Onboarding, Agritech
  • KYC Operations Manager, Agri NBFC
  • Field Operations Manager

The problem

Field agents onboard farmers at village meetings and collection points, photographing ID cards, bank passbooks and land records on their phones. Back-office teams then fix blurred photos, retype names written in Hindi and English, and chase missing documents, while the farmer waits weeks for membership, input credit or payments.

Poor photos from the field

Glare, cropped edges and blurred passbook pages mean documents are often rejected days after the visit.

Names in different scripts

The same farmer appears in Devanagari on a land record, in English on a bank passbook, and with another spelling on a voter ID.

Duplicate registrations

Farmers registered by different agents, FPOs or programmes create duplicate records and double benefits or credit.

Consent that is hard to evidence

Consent forms in English, signed without explanation, do not show the farmer understood how their data will be used.

What we build

We build an onboarding flow for field agent apps and back offices. As the agent photographs each document, the app checks the image is sharp and complete and asks for a retake on the spot. The pipeline classifies documents, extracts fields, masks Aadhaar numbers immediately and keeps only what your process needs. Names are matched across scripts with transliteration-aware comparison, and bank details can be confirmed with a penny-drop check through your payment provider. A duplicate check compares each new farmer with existing records by name, father's name, village, mobile and bank account. Consent is read out in the farmer's language and recorded. Mismatches and possible duplicates go to a KYC reviewer.

  • On-device photo quality checks with retake prompts for field agents
  • Document classification and field extraction for ID, bank and land documents
  • Aadhaar masking before anything is stored
  • Transliteration-aware name matching across Devanagari, regional scripts and English
  • Duplicate farmer detection across agents, FPOs and programmes
  • Consent notice read out in the farmer's language, with recorded acknowledgement

How it works

  1. 01Capture in the fieldThe field agent photographs documents in the app, which checks quality and asks for retakes immediately.
  2. 02Record consentThe app plays a consent notice in the farmer's language and records the acknowledgement.
  3. 03Extract and maskFields are extracted, Aadhaar is masked, and only the data your process needs is kept.
  4. 04Match and de-duplicateNames and details are matched across documents and against existing farmer records.
  5. 05KYC reviewer decisionMismatches, possible duplicates and low-confidence fields go to a reviewer who approves, corrects or requests documents.
  6. 06Activate the farmerApproved farmers are created in your CRM or ERP and notified by SMS or WhatsApp.

Where people stay in control

KYC reviewers decide every name mismatch, possible duplicate and low-confidence document. Where onboarding feeds a regulated loan, the lender's KYC team applies its own policy before any account is opened.

Integrations

  • Field agent mobile app
  • Farmer CRM or FPO ERP
  • Payment provider for bank account verification
  • SMS gateway or WhatsApp Business API
  • DigiLocker, where your use case permits

Guardrails

  • Aadhaar masked before storage and handled per UIDAI rules
  • Data minimisation: only the fields your process needs are kept
  • Possible duplicates never auto-merged; a reviewer confirms
  • Role-based access to farmer documents
  • Consent notice versioned and linked to each record

Compliance notes

  • Consent capture and purpose limitation designed in line with the DPDP Act 2023, with notices in the farmer's language.
  • For regulated lenders, the flow is designed to feed, not replace, customer due diligence under the RBI KYC Master Direction.

FAQs

01Do we store Aadhaar numbers?

No. Aadhaar is masked as soon as it is read, and only the masked form is stored, in line with UIDAI rules. Where your process needs Aadhaar-based verification, it goes through an authorised route.

02Will it work without network in villages?

Yes. The app checks photo quality on the phone and queues documents offline, syncing when the agent reaches coverage.

03How do you match names written in different scripts?

We transliterate and compare names using rules tuned for Indian names, alongside father's name, village and mobile number. Close matches go to a reviewer rather than being merged automatically.

04Can farmers give consent if they cannot read?

Yes. The consent notice is played as audio in their language, and their acknowledgement is recorded with the agent present. The record is linked to the farmer's profile.
